youth hunt=goose egg all weekend as far as ducks

took my cousin from dallas on his first duck hunt and pulled up to the blind being 2' under water due to the flooding on the sabine. Did not see any ducks within range saturday and had a flock of 3 try to decoy today but didn't come close enough for a good shot. Instead though saturday I gave my cousin my .17 hmr and we ran down a 150lb boar on a levee. That boar was determined, cousin gave him a guaranteed 2 head shots while the hog was swimming then at least 8 more hits while he was running. However my lab picked up his first bird, of course a poule d'eaux counts in my book he loved it, he picked up a dove too, he especially likes them live.

the end result was a happy kid and a happier dog owner, my cousin said that duck hunting is boring and he'd rather deer hunting at their Northeast Texas deer lease. They are supposed to come back down during christmas so he's going to give it another try then. I told him dem birds are magic lol.

Tell him not to give up hope. Even the best hunters have bad days.
