Shore fishing: Bayou Sauvage or Barataria Reserve?

I'm going to find myself in Timberlane/Marrero area next week during the early morning for work and would like to put a line in the water after my work ends that morning for the rest of the day. Since I am without a boat I was debating on whether to go to Barataria preserve and fish the twin canals from the bank or go north east and fish Bayou Sauvage from the bank. Anyone have insight on either of these two places, or know of somewhere within the same distance that would be more rewarding from the bank? I heard Bayou Sauvage was less than safe last year, but haven't heard anything since. Thanks.
