Went to my first firefighting extraction training class last night. All I can say is... WOW. These guys are awesome. They performed 4 different scenerios and all were very informative. They performed a vertical roof extraction, proper usage of different saws to cut roof's, proper way to drag victim out of burning house and hose ventilation (where you shoot water out of door to draw smoke out of building). This was performed at Planer Mill FD training station in DeRidder. Was there for 6:30pm til 10:00pm to help clean up. Got to use the hose on the side. Helped set-up hoses, disassemble them. Work fire hydrants. Work the fire truck PSI and lights. Refill O2 tanks. Pretty much everything except going in the house to put out the fire. It was a blast. As soon as I can get the pictures emailed to myself, I'll post them up.
Just wanted to share the awesome experience.
This is looking like something I can see myself doing in the near future.

Just an FYI, not an O2 tank. It is breathing air. Need to be careful on that one as there are both in the service

Jude, im new to this stuff, thats what one of the other guys said it was. Just following what I was told. Sorry. I know it was pretty easy to refill to like 2216 psi or something like that

Something else that you need to put into your head now as you start as a fireman! When working hoses, remember "boys run to the fire, girls run home". In other words, if you are ever given the task to pull hose to connect to a hydrant or another truck, male end is where the water comes out, female end is what you hook for supply. Can't tell you how many times as an 18y/o I pulled the wrong end of a house, only to have to do it again. Old timer from LSU fire school told me that trick and never made the mistake of dragging the wrong end again.

Before any women start fussing - it's no way inteded to offend - just trying to teach!

As a former fire instructor i will tell you this . Pay attention to everything and ask questions . Dont rush the education process ,it is very important to fully understand what is going on at all time in the fire service.It is a very exciting job with great rewards . You will get to experiance things most never will ,and unfourtunately what some never should as well. Remember a bad day as a fireman may mean someone doesnt go home .

If ya ever get the chance to go push the fire pit at LSU FS don't pass it up. When i joined the fire team at work we got to take the industrial training. best fire fighting education i have.

Looks like a great training opportunity! I think I see Mr. Jim Wells in one of the pics. He is my supervisor with FETI and a wealth of knowledge! Take the classes he gives, it's worth it!
Take classes as often as you can. In this line of work we will never know it all!

Have you ever been to A&M's fire school? Its a blast. I've jade about 15 trips there for both HAZMAT and Industrial Firefighting.

My hat's off to you guys that do or have done this stuff for a living.. I've done some training @ a few different marine FF schools for need training @ work. But buy far my experience @ Delgado in New Orleans is by far the best one I've attended. Been there for multiple 2 and 5 day classes.. Majority of there senerios are done with diesel, the sooner you put that stuff out the better!! But anyway, thanks guys..
