UTV's out in rice fields??

Anyone running the new UTV's (side by sides) out in the rice fields or the deer leases?

We have one, Arctic Cat Prowler 650, and I got stuck (operator error!) the only time I brought it out to the rice field. It has factory tires on it.

Buddy of mine has the Yamaha Rhino, and added much more aggressive tires and has done better. He has still gotten stuck about 3 times this season.

Anyway, whats everyones opinion on these out in the fields?

I will add that the ride is much better and its much more comfortable not to have to ride b*tch or side saddle behind someone when on a 4wheeler. Carrying decoys, dogs, & guns is much easier too.

not running it on the levee but in the rice field itself right?

yep. Just trying to hear tips or comments from people running them.

It Will Work

Ask Josh L, I think they use the new side by sides. They used to have an old mule that was bad to the bone. They would drag the decoys in an old aluminum boat to the blind.

We have ran a few of them in the rice fields and the only one that did really good was the polaris ranger even tryed the badboy buggy but that was a mistake.

prob raising the utv up a bit with larger tires and maybe a lift kit will keep your bottom from "sucking" down or from bottoming out in the rice field mud.

How much do on of these UTV's weigh compared to a ATV?

jlincecum 01-13-2010 09:33 PM

dont need the lift chas. just change the tires and problem solved. ours wouldnt get out of its own way with the stock tires.

I rode in a Ranger at a friend’s lease in Arkansas and it did awesome. We would ride out in the field set the decoys get back in and he would drop us off at the blind. Talk about spoil you. Last year we had to walk half a mile carrying decoys then set them out. We even tried to get it stuck by running in and out of canals. He has the 27" High Lifter Outlaw Radials with no lift. He got it stuck several times before he changed the tires. I used to run the Maxxis Bi/Tri Claws on my bike and they were bad to the bone in the mud and rode smooth on hard surfaces. The only place they lacked was climbing steep banks that were solid. These tires and the outlaw radials use the treads to paddle rather than some aggressive tread patterns that will dig.

Thanks Josh! Thats what I wanted to hear. Mine looks just like that, except for the camo & tires.

PS - whats brand & size is that on there? Where'd you get them?

Those are swamp lites, 29" I believe. We got those from Shetler with the bike but you can find em anywhere online. Give me a call if you have any other questions.

Jordan 01-14-2010 01:05 PM

i have swamp lites on my bike... i love them... tried outlaws, 589's, silverbacks.... still went back witht he swamp lites... their a light tire and they are about 60% agressive in the mud... thats all i need tho !!

Shawn Braquet 01-14-2010 03:44 PM

i like my swamp lites but they don't bite near as good as my outlaws but they tore up too much stuff so im with jordan i stuck with swamp lites. I have 27s on my rubicon.
