Fort Polk WMA 11/26
Made it to my stand at just before sun up and only had to wait until 7:00 when I saw the fork horn rubbing on down the firebreak from my stand. He turned sideways and I shot him with my Weatherby .270 WSM. I watched him drop right there behind a log. Once I got to him I then saw that I had only seen one side of his antlers....I had a nice 8 point on the ground. First Louisiana deer and first deer in three years (thanks to the Army, family, and Iraq). Now the hard part, I had hiked in 1 1/2 miles in and over a creek and I do not have an ATV to get him out. That was the longest drag in my life, but it is over.

Nice. I bet you was tired when you got him back to the truck. It's all in the hunt.

That's a nice deer! How'd they do out at Fort Polk this week? Glad you go yourself one and thanks for your service. I know how a year in Iraq away from the woods feels.
