Speck Calls

So I know the redbones and ricelands of the world, but has anyone blown the Deep south speck call or the Havoc speck call?
Anyone has any particular call they like? Just trying to get a feel on what yall like more then anything.
Thanks.

You want functionality and reliability go Riceland. You want a custom one of a kind piece to put up on the shelf gotta be a Reclamation call. Reclamations sound really good too, they just too purdy!

speck-addict 09-08-2016 02:32 PM

I blew one for the first time in Stuttgart, Not a bad sounding call, however, I blew one that was real tough i believe it was the acrylic but the all wood had a better sound quality how does your compare with the acrylic insert. What made you go with a exciter?

It's just a tad more high pitch than I'm used to, but the birds don't seem to mind it. lol Mine isn't real hard to blow. Mainly just looking for something different than everyone else around, and the guys I talked to about it spoke very highly of it.

I second the Bartender.
For someone who is still learning, I find it easier to use.
It'll break over easily without a ton of air, but not so easily that you can't cluck.

I tried a Riceland last year but found it takes a little more skill than I currently possess.

speck-addict 09-08-2016 03:13 PM

I understand, like I said I had 50/50 review on them I liked 1 of the 2 I blew. I was just curious to see what everyone was blowing I have a few different speck calls and I just enjoy getting new ones and blowing different ones. I have blown riceland for 4 or 5 years and had nothing but great hunts from it, but I get the wild hair to get a new one and this is the wild hair I guess lol

Chien Caille is still the best to learn on.

duck and goose calls are just like women..... you need to go through a few to really find out which one fits you best..

remember, practice makes perfect...

Lol Roger that, DKWDL. You must know my people well.

speck-addict 09-09-2016 08:49 AM

I am not so much worried of learning, lol. I am a fairly decent speck caller and hunter, I was just curios on what calls yall blow get a discussion like that going. There are so many out there and no one call is the same, Just curious to what yall use.

cgoods17 09-09-2016 10:03 AM

i have been through the ringer.. p.s. olt, cut down olts with ace comb reeds, chien caille, primos, sure shot, rnt, early james meyers, riceland, redbone, etc...

learning how to call and progressing on the call are two different animals. all calls will kill. everybody blows a call differently, and every call reacts to the each caller differently..

it is all about what fits you the best and how comfortable with the call you feel.

but to answer your question i have have a james meyers/riceland on my lanyard for the past 15 years. and that is just because that is my go to. i feel the most comfortable with it in my hands, i know exactly how it will perform in any situation. and if anything happens i am comfortable enough to be able to adjust/tune it on the fly when needed.

that is just my .02

speck-addict 09-09-2016 01:03 PM

It's more or less i Know what i like I just want to get another call I have a few I just like to collect them

cgoods17 09-09-2016 02:25 PM

well if you want to collect them, then go buy em all...

what calls do you like?

duckman70301 09-11-2016 10:00 AM

I've had a RCC poly for about a year now and really like it (first year speck hunting). I've progressed a lot, and am in the market for a higher end call now also. I've heard there isn't much difference in the poly and acrylic RCC's as far as guts go? Is it worth the money or should I stick to my Poly for another season? Or would it be a bad move to try a whole different brand / call since all I've ever known and learned on was this RCC?

I think its worth the money Ihave both and I prefer my wood barrel with acrylic insert, I find its a more crisp call wear as my poly has a grunt sound.

So after reading this I decided to try an experiment and took the guts out of the rnt acrylic speck call I don't use and see if it would fit in the barrel of my cocobolo rnt macro hen. It fits and man it sounds good. I think I might have found my new favorite call. I was using a rcc poly because it took less air than the rnt. I also stuck the macrohen guts in the speck barrelhttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...ae8dca33ce.jpg

Meaux I mean do disrespect to you sir, and by no means am I questioning your speck calling ability.

But I do have 1 question, can you "Bounce or Cluck the Hen" with those calls?

speck-addict 09-14-2016 01:03 PM

by bounce or cluck the hen.... do you mean n the middle of the quack have like a hick-up almost. Sound file of that would be great!

redleg one 09-14-2016 01:38 PM

I'm not a bouncer... Sorry

meaux fishing 09-14-2016 03:18 PM

I will also add I'm by no means a great or even a good speck caller probably. I have been able to trick a few though and that's all that matters to me.

Double Cluck?

In my experience the Triple Cluck is deadly for those wary Lacassine Flyway birds. Something about that triple cluck, they just give it up. Usually just double cluck hunting other areas.

Double cluck----uka-uka-uka-uka-uka, wita-wita-wita,,huta-huta-huta

single cluck------ hut-hut-hut-hut

bouncing hen---- waanka-waanka-waanka-waanka

similar note shapes

Hunter B. can double cluck,if you hunt with him

speck-addict 09-15-2016 10:12 AM

Double clucking isn't hard, once you learn to control your air... I want to know this triple cluck...

redleg one 09-15-2016 11:01 AM

there is no triple cluck---unless you add an extra syllable to an uka-uk

that is all a joke in reference to guys doing bouncing hens

nah man, basic main speck note shapes still same---scratch,cluck,uka-uk,2 note yodel,3 note yodel

will you hear a 4 note yodel from time to time, yes
sometimes in a group flying overhead---one will just go lllliiiiilllll---open ended instead of llllliiiiillllliiiiilllliiitttt or lllliiiilllliiitt

specks make all sorts of other little noises too especially on the ground in any substantial concentration---but the shapes listed above are the bread and butter

and that exciter is not a bad call, lacks the range of a redbone or riceland--but is low threshold to run and efficient-realistic pitches

same thing with havoc punisher---very easy to run, limited range compared to redbone or riceland,,but well within realism

I have not ran a vendetta---but they are also well received and both garrett cole and Nathan flemmons run them very well
