Bull reds at jetties 7/22
Hit the W cut and soaked crab and mullet for an hour in a half before convincing the boys to move to the drum hole at the SW corner. Had a couple of good rips in 30 minutes before the rain moved in a W wind forced us back inside. Hit the E cut for an hour until things settled back down.
Headed back to the drum hole at the SW corner, and it was on. My older son boated his biggest fish ever (a bull red), my younger son boated his biggest drum, and I managed a very nice redfish (42ish") in short order on crab before the waves wore us out and pushed us back inside. |
How was the seaweed? Looking to go the pier this weekend.

This is actually the 7/22 pictures with report from this afternoon (7/24). We went straight to the drum hole at the SW corner and dropped anchor at 3:00 PM. A shrimp boat rode by at 3:20 and we already had a huge bull red and two gafftops in the box. The shrimp boat yelled that there was bad weather heading in from the east. I made a quick call to my wife to check the weather radar, and we decided to stay for a bit. Then bang-bang, we had two more bull reds in the boat in no time, so we pulled anchor and headed back to the dock.
Water was clear and beautiful. Bait busting everywhere with some kind of forked tail fish busting 'em. Only seaweed we saw was on the boat ramp, a week or so old and rotting. Water was clear and beautiful. |
