07 Kenner 19VX

Anyone here ever ran anything more than a 115hp on this hull? It's a rolled edge hull no liner. Currently run a 115 optimax. Need better performance and speed. Hull is rated for 125hp. I'm going to a 150 pro xs or 175 pro xs. Upgraded to Hyd Steering also. I know all about the legality of exceeding the rating.
Thanks Wayne

What Prop you running?

Are you trying to get a better hole shot?
More top end speed?
Carry a bigger load?

mr wayne 11-02-2016 07:29 AM

Yes to all your quetions. I am running a 19p lazer2. Little cup added. Hole shot little slow. Top end 42 with theguts hung out on a good day. Rpms 5400 at that speed. Also have a 20p lazer2. Hole shot slow. Top end 40-41 on a good day. Rpms 5200. The 19 is best out of these 2. To cruise at 36-37 mph rpms are 4800-4900.

seapickle 11-02-2016 08:58 AM

we really need to know more info...

1) find out your motors max rpms it may be 5500 but im not 100%. You need to be hitting that max when light/average loaded.

2) Your prop sucks haha id turn a tempest with that optimax or a rev 4 or trophy if you want a 4 blade. May need to drop to a 18 or 17 pitch for the tempest (depending if 5500rpms is the motors max)

3) You may want to add a jackplate. Your motor may be too low causing you to bog down and robbing rpms.

mr wayne 11-02-2016 10:49 AM

Max rpm 5750. Turned 19p 6000 before cup. Have hyd jackplate. Tried running 20 before a little cup. With 20p before cup would run 43-44 @ 5200-5300 rpm. I asked if anyone here has ran anything bigger than a 115 on this hull to see how this hull ran with something bigger. I am fixing to put a pro xs 175 on it. I have owned boats for the last 40 yrs. i'm not playing with anymore props. I appreciate you wanting to help with this 115 but it will be for sale soon. So lets go back to the question i posted. Thanks

Rule of thumb is it takes 5hp to gain 1 mph, going to a 175 you should gain 12MPH

If thats the case i should be running every bit of 23 mph now. Every application will be so different that your rule of thumb does not apply.

Mr. Wayne, (heavy on the mister) you were given some pretty solid advice, if 5hp=1mph then your new top speed will be around 54mph. I would say thats going to be pretty close. A simple thank you would be prudent.

You probably wanted someone to tell you that a 175 will propel your vessel to 65+ mph but I don't think that's gonna happen unless your hull is Helium injected with adjustable freeboard.

I didn't mean it the way it sounded. My apologies. I do appreciate the help. I should have asked how this hull handled with more hp. Never heard of the rule of thumb before but was hoping to run in the mid to upper 50's. I'm not interested in making this 115 run any better. I've been chasing 2 mph with different props too long.
Thanks Wayne

Well I could help there...I run a very similar hull. I have a 2016 frontier 2104. I run it with a yamaha f200 on a 6" hydro jackplate turning a 18p reliance prop. I run 54 with 2 people full gas and loaded down and 50 with 3-4people full gas loaded down. Boat jumps out of the hole and very responsive all the way through the throttle.
150hp on your boat will be the same. It's a huge difference than the small hub 115. The reliance prop was made by yamaha for the 150 and 200hp.

mr wayne 11-07-2016 09:38 AM

Thanks. That's good numbers for boat that size with a good fishing load.

seapickle 11-07-2016 09:52 AM

yeah those are max speeds aired out fine tuning jackplate. Depending on water conditions and air temp i may lose 1-2 mph. The hull and f200 does really well with the right prop. MY buddy wit the same boat and the 200 SHO does about 5mph better than me. He is 1:1 with mph:rpm im about 5-7 mph behing my rpms
