Kayak Question

I have been thinking about buying a Kayak, but not sure I will like fishing out of one. If I decide down the road that I want to sell the kayak I purchase which brands hold their value the best? I realize I will probably lose some money if I sell, just don't want to get hosed.

Also, are there any good models for fishing two people?

Thanks.

Jackson Cudas hold their value pretty well and are nice rigs. If you are just looking for a starter yak an Ocean prowler is relatively cheaper and serves the purpose.... I would just invest in a good seat if i went that route. That is the model i own and have enjoyed every bit of it.

You should look into going to one of the Lafayette Kayak fishing club meetings. Meetings are open to public at Pack and paddle in Lafayette. Lots of good info on fishing and Kayaks.

Most kayaks hold their value very well. If you are not certain about yak fishing check craigslist and other local classifieds and you can usually pick up a lightly used yak for a decent price. You should be fine with any good name brand kayak, Hobie, Wilderness systems, Jackson, Ocean etc. You can also go down to Pack and Paddle in Lafayette. They have demo days where you can paddle or pedal around in various yaks to find the one that you like the best. Demoing is really the best method of finding out what one suits you best.

Read the reviews posted online, find someone who will let you use theirs for an afternoon of fishing. Short = harder to paddle, Long = easier to paddle/faster. You don't have to spend a $1,000 to get something comfortable and safe to fish out of.
+10 on comfortable seat and good paddle, they are 50% of the yak experience IMO.

spend some time looking for a good used yak that has extras.... I bought a Jackson Cuda used with about $500 worth extras for $1200 and sold it a year later for same price... check TKF.com
