Catfishing on the Bell City Ditch

Took the wife out Saturday morning to try to get a few fresh catfish for frying. Had boat troubles to start with but made the trip ok (had shop clean gummed up carb, now good to go). Set up shop about 12 miles from the landing at a pump that was pushing water into the canal. In about 2 hours we caught; or should I say she caught 21 channels between 2# to 3# and 2 small flats at about 2 1/2# each. She kept me busy unhooking and re-baiting, I think I caught 4 but she had a blast. All were caught on Secret Seven Dip Bait. I am now a firm beliver and have ordered more, this stuff works. Sorry no pictures, didn't have our camera.

Nice... I love to do a little pole fishing for catfish. Park under a tree, open up my lounge chair and put it on the front deck and crack open a few cold ones. Have you ever tried live bream or mullet fillets for bait?

Yea, works good, but this was just a spur-of-the-moment trip.

I have never fished that area that you talk about. I do ALOT of catfishing in the intracoastal canal by my house and thow are my 2 best baits. More the live bream because of the crabs. Sometimes the crabs are so bad that if you use mullet fillets, the bait dont last 10 minutes in the water.

Where did you put in? Did you run south from the public launch? Just curious, would like to take my daughter one day....Sounds fun!

We put in at the Parish Landing on Rosignal Road and ran south till the big irrigation pump on the right side a couple of miles north of the refuge spillway.
