Zeroed on the trout two weeks ago at TS. Had quite a few boats fishing. East of the TS platform water was stained, west it was gorgeous, hit about 5 different locations I have caught trout in the past. Watched quite a few other boats fishing within 100 yards of me only saw two trout caught.
At one point I got in the water to cool off, water was super clear and salty could almost see my toes...

How far of a boat ride is Tiger Shoals from V Bay?

Just spoke to one of the best fisherman I know. He spent most of the day in Tigre Shoals. Couldn’t get past the gaftops. Not a single trout. Slick and beautiful water

Thats my luck, every time I make it out there, water is beautiful, gaftops are on fire, no trout.

Thanks!

I can't wait for the cooler weather. Thanks for sharing the info, I want to head that way soon and learn the area more.

I went yesterday, started out at rigs around redfish point headed to dry reef, trash pile, mud point, found birds working in a few places pitched structure, couple short fish and 1 keeper red. water is beautiful no specks. warden checked me and said out of about 12 boats in the bay he saw 3 specks. I don't know whats going on.

Went out yesterday afternoon caught 15, just a few at each structure. Water is beautiful. We didn't catch a single gaftop. Saw sharks swimming around at every stop and the Spanish mackerel almost emptied out my tackebox, 30-40 lures, didn't matter which well head. If I tried to work the bait more than 2 feet off the bottom my lure was gone.

Why not just use a kevlar leader? You will not lose a rig to a mackeral, ever.

How long of a leader do you tie? Can you actually tie it or does it need crimps? Thanks

It is actually a braid. I use a 3ft leader for Spanish mackerel.

A lot of mixed trout reports in this post. Mackerel at the wellheads inside the bay? Or the rigs in the gulf? Isn't it weird that the mackerel are in the bay but not the specks? I love mackerel but my luck they will all move out if I go.

Rigs in the gulf.

Any trout action this week? We were thinking of trying for trout before headed to marsh island Saturday. Still very new to the area so any general advice on where to go inside the bay would be awesome. Not looking for your honey hole, just some common reefs to try besides dry reef.

Or is it even worth trying for specs inside right now?
