Toledo Bend in Late April
 

Hey Guys,
I am planning on the wife and I taking a little week off in the end of April maybe even early may. We were thinking about spending the week on Toledo Bend. I have heard a lot about the bass fishing there but have never been.
What advise do you guys have for fishing it blind? Also what advise do y'all have on where to stay. I looked at the state park cabins online but I am sure there are plenty of options.

Wildwood Resort and Fin & Feathers are nice places to stay. The fishing depends on what part of the lake you stay. In April the fish on the north and mid lake will have spawned. The fish on the south end may still be spawning depending on weather and water temps.

And sacalait should be prime then

State park cabins are nice.

Fin and feather is only like 60bux a night till april... not sure how much after then.

Go look on vrbo.com and search Toledo Bend. People rent out there lake houses. I stayed in a really nice place on the south end in Indian Creek last year. Great experience and we had a large group so it was super cheap.

In April you can almost catch em any way you like too!! But if you haveing trouble pick a bank an Whacky a Wat/red Senko and u will smoke the 10-16" bass all day

The state parks have Senior rates...... if you qualify for that.

Pendleton Bridge on south:

Shallow: Wacky worm, shallow crank baits (mimic sunfish), rogues, weightless flukes, lizards.... and of course your choice of bed baits.

Deep: cant go wrong with a carolina rig and a mid/deep diving crankbait for searching. Lots of Kentucky bass to be caught with these presentations.

Huge transition phase during this month. Fish are nearing the end of spawn and some will be still on beds... most have moved off (depending on how far south/north you are). Fish are usually starting to suspend and stage by this time. You can always find bass along grass edge irregularities (grass points, patchy grass) near spawning flats or creek beds leading to these areas.

Fin n Feather is probably the most fish abundant area that has all the topography/variability to be successful during this time. Plus it isnt far to run further south to 6 mile and other areas that are prime spawn/post spawn areas. However, these areas are heavily pressured during this time. good luck

Lots of good spawning flats in that area and its a straight shot across the lake to 6 mile. Nice launch and cafe for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

We make a few trips every year and usually stay at cypress bend resort or south toledo bend state park. If your looking for a place for you to enjoy the lake while your wife relaxes cypress bend is the place to be. They have a spa and nice accommodations from bars to reasturants. If your lookin for something a little more secluded south toledo is the place to be....very quiet and cabins are very homey.

Buy you some punch weights... They ones that you actually out on your hook. Punch the matted grass in 2-6 foot of water in Housen, Loews, Pirates Cove. Get you some 4-5 inch craw baits punch through the grass to bottom and bounch about 1 foot up. No bite anfter a few seconds punch again a few feet away. Caught some good ones in there at that time last year. Had some Elite fellas right next to me doing same stuff and watched one of them pull up a hawg.

I like fishing in May. Bream are biting heavily, good numbers of bass around rocks and deep docks on crankbaits, and cant forget catching a handful of blues on jugs
