neverenuf 07-12-2018 08:36 PM

Water right now doesn't look very good.

redaddiction 07-13-2018 10:27 AM

Here now. Gulf is calm. Water is stained not green but fishable. 10 inches of visibility. No trout just gafftops. And schools of jumbo pogies all around.

Same as yesterday. Based on the weather forecast...there is no good surf fishing in sight.

I'd imagine it'll start to clear up today and the rest of the week with North wind blowing

calcutta37 07-25-2018 07:23 PM

Yes I would also think that.

marshrunner757 07-26-2018 02:46 PM

Can you post that pic?

I fished holly beach before where the water was emerald green. Could see the ripples in the sand in waist deep water.

I took my boat down to the beach this morning. My first stop was about 1/2 way down the rock breakers. Water there was about 10" to 12" visibility and I caught one 12.25" speck.

I moved west down near the end of the rock breakers. Water was about the same or slightly dirtier. I caught a 17" trout..... fishing soft plastic.

The wind was 3 to 6 mph out of the NE. By 9 am, the wind died down a little and the water was fairly calm. While heading back to the Jetties the wind was from the east or SE for a while and blowing 5+ mph some times.

At one point I was fixing to move so I trolled 50 yards away from the rocks before starting the engine. When I started it..... about 25 yards farther out, a big school of fish busted the surface and went down. I turned off the engine and grabbed a rod. I got a hook-up right away. I fought it for several minutes..... thinking that big school did not look like reds. After making several runs, the fish broke off. Maybe a Jack???

By 9:30 I started heading back east. I stopped where I started and water still looked the same. I caught several small trout and one barely legal there.

As I headed farther east, I saw several boats fishing the rocks..... so I stopped again. Water here looked better..... 15"+ visibility and a nice green color. I got a fair amount of strikes using a TKO shrimp and two more 12+" trout. By 10:30 am, most boats had left.

I went up near to beach several time, but never saw any schools of bait. I caught several catfish and a couple croakers. I did not catch any Reds all day.

On the way in, I was following another boat an he suddenly stopped. When I slowly caught got up near him he said he had seen a school of Reds. We waited a while but did not see them again.

I got a couple of picture on my camera that I will post later.

I guess it was either no good today or everyone is tight lipped.

Anyone have their eyes on the gulf today? Itching to go tomorrow.

Broke Down 07-27-2018 08:28 PM

Everything looked good as far as conditions, I hope tomorrow is good, I will be close.

jchief 07-28-2018 10:00 AM

Buddy that works in Johnson Bayou called me on his way to work yesterday evening. Water was clean and fish busting about 100 yards out. Way he described it, sure it was bull reds

Flex 07-28-2018 10:44 AM

Got done a little while ago. Waded out to the rocks, threw gulp and cork, DSL, and gold and silver spoons.

Caught two specks, 5 white trout. All very small. Tons and tons of bait and birds about 100 yards out. I wish i had the kayak!!!!! Didn't see anybody else catching, one boat throwing live shrimp and cork caught 8-9 dink trout same place i was fishing.

Was really hoping I'd catch a red or some big specks.

Broke Down 07-28-2018 05:35 PM

Water was amazing today! We were at the jetties and it was super clean, I haven't ever seen it that nice. Water was pretty calm too.

neverenuf 07-29-2018 07:33 AM

Bull reds and shark 4-8' long about 1mile off the beach. Caught so many yesterday I have to take today off!

specksNdaSURF 07-30-2018 10:14 AM

caught a dozen dink trout and 1 red on SAT morning on the beach. Lost a monster tripletail floating about a mile off beach and also broke off on very nice sized ling offshore a ways. Trout and reds were on the beach but so were the boats lol

VB is full of 4-5" pogie, they're flipping every where but gaftop are under them, I'm sure there's trout if you can get passed the catfish.

TidewateR 08-01-2018 01:42 PM

....more North wind this week??!

jimbass 08-06-2018 10:17 AM

Muddy water in the surf this past weekend.

TidewateR 08-24-2018 09:58 AM

quick trip yesterday..water looked pretty good away from the shore. Although, winds already had some East in it.

Ran around hoping to see some large trash fish (bull reds and jacks)

No dice...pretty morning though

neverenuf 08-24-2018 12:22 PM

Yesterday around 3pm there were huge schools of bull reds busting bait about 1/2 mile offshore. East wind in the evening turned them off.

TidewateR 08-24-2018 01:23 PM

Appreciate the info! i could could see some action offshore a ways (birds etc), but didn’t have the balls to run out in my little skiff haha
