Tohatsu 50d timing

I have a tohatsu 40d that I just put some 50 carbs and tuner on. It's running stronger (hole shot) but not faster. I believe the issue is timing. Can anyone point me towards some instructions on how to adjust the timing? Thanks. Mike

Send a pm to Cajun Christian unless someone has his phone number they can send to you.

The man is a Tohatsu encyclopedia

Thanks Bluechip. I found a manual online. It shows 20 degrees BTDC for the 50. Then it occurred to me that I could take the timing linkage from the donor 50 hp and put it on my 40. If there are more tricks. I'm all ears.

Still trying to figure it out

I've advanced the timing, but that's not the issue. It'll run strong for a minute then I seem to lose about 500 rpm. (That's a guess) I had a loose coil that I though may not have been grounded. Fixed that too. Tonight I cleaned the carbs. Main jets were clean but the "other" jets. Were clogged. What are these other jets? The ones under the rubber plug? Are these idle jets? Is there an easy way to check if the fuel pump is operating correctly?

Thanks,
