Merc. Or Yammyhaw

Which do you prefer Mercury Outboards, or Yamaha Outboards...2 stroke or 4 stroke?

LaAngler 08-15-2009 08:24 PM

merc 2.5 racing engine, 2 stroke

BIGJ 08-15-2009 08:43 PM

Yamaha Outboards... 4 stroke any day.

Bluechip 08-15-2009 08:49 PM

I have only owned THE BEST "YAMAHA". I have owned an HPDI....great motor....but as my slogan says it all.....4 Stroke Yamaha.....need not say more!!!!

flounder_smacker 08-15-2009 10:36 PM

deff would go with the yamaha. as for 2 or 4 stroke it depends on the application

Marshrat 08-16-2009 10:06 AM

I commercial fish & crab and have run almost every motor on the market, but out of the 2 you listed Mercury has given me the least problems and the best fuel economy.

A lot of commercial fishermen I know have gone to Tahotsu(spelling?) and Suzuki.
Before 4 strokes, they mostly ran Mercury and Evinrudes.

This is one of those topics that we can all agree to disagree on just like FORD OR CHEVY.....WELL GIVE ME A YAMAHA & A CHEVY.

jahosaphet 08-19-2009 10:04 PM

both are good, but both have weaknesses, i give the 4 stroke to yami, but you CANNOT beat the fuel economy of an opti, if you can prove me wrong. and those who say the optis blow up alot... well that was true at one time, but you yall need to look into how many hpdi blow. but either way the market has come along way for direct injection, the fuel econemy is awesome. but still give me my choice and its a carb 2 stroke, be it yami or merc, but those v-4 yammis are really hard to beat

all star rod 08-19-2009 10:20 PM

Are you saying a MERC OPTI gets better fuel economy than a 4 stroke Yamaha........

cmdrost 08-20-2009 08:42 AM

no....i think he's saying he gives the 4 stroke market advantage to Yamaha and the 2 stroke market to the Merc Opti.

I've run both, currently have 4 stroke Yamaha....really can't go wrong with either.
