width vs length
 

Looking into getting a yak for fishing. The two im looking at at the moment seem to fit my needs just fine. Just need help deciding on width vs length. Ome is 12' x 30.75" and the otjer is 10' x 36". I plan on sitting low for paddling then bringing a chair im gonna make to sit higher while fishing. Im on the light side. 150lbs so i dont need alot of yak. Atleast I think I dont lol

More Width for stability, less for speed. Just depends which you need more of

Paddling I would recommend the 12' over the 10'. The 12 will track better and be easier to paddle. Which two are you interested in? PnP in Lafayette will do a free demo of any boat that they have in store. Everyone I talk to I always recommend trying out different kayaks before buying one. Also talk to others that have different models and try to get the pros and cons of each boat because there isn't one Perfect kayak. I have the Cuda14 and I love it, but it isn't for everyone.

Anything over 32 wide is pretty stable. If you're paddling any bit of distance go 12 long at least. Like Paublo said demo as many as possible.

I have tried quite a few and to me the jackson cuda is the best. Pack and paddle prolly is getting tired of me demoing without buying but it's hard to decide.

You try the nucanoe there yet? I'm yet to, but I heard a lot of good reviews.

One of the first one's I tried....It is very stable but not all that fast. It would be good with a trolling motor but I rather paddle to keep it simple. I'm pretty much set on the cuda 14.

Loving my malibu stealth-14. I can stand up and throw my cast net off of this thing. At 62/64 lbs, it's easily thrown in the back of my truck.

Im looking at the perception destiny 12 its 12' x 30.75" and the emotion renegade xt its 10 x 36". It will mainly be used for prien and lake charles until I move back home then mainly freshwater will be all its used for or small bayous

Go with the length... if you are doing any kind of distance paddling you will want the longer yak. They track alot better... and I can stand in my 13' Ocean easily. Anything below 12' IMO is not worth it even if you arent going far. How many times do people actually stand in a yak really??? I think its pointless.

I honestly never plan on standing but I do plan on making a seat thats about 6-8" up which is why im looking at the width. I dont wanna be sitting flat all day. And ots a perception scout not destiny

I would love to have the seat a jackson cuda has... if you could replicate that seat you would be set.

Sounds like the KC would work for you then. 34' wide and 12 long. It tracks well, but certainly can't paddle near the distance as easily as the cuda's mentioned. It comes standard with a seat you can flip to sit higher. Attachment 54248

Are those the ones that look like a barge in the front? If I had the money I would get a fs128t but trying to keep it cheap for now.

I stand in my kayak multiple times every trip. I almost always catch my own live bait from the kayak and "Walking the dog" on top water baits is easier when standing. The KC yaks are great unless its windy.

No doubt...to me they have the most comfortable seat.

This one got my attention...now Im gunna have to wait till PP has one before I decide. LOL

Me too for the same reasons plus sometimes it's good just to stand up and stretch a little.
