Shrimp Attractant
 

I have been trying to catch some shrimp at night to use for fishing bait but havent been having much luck. I have some sinking dog food i will try tonight, but i have heard of people using fish meal and clay to make dough balls and having great results. Where san i get some fish meal to try it out?

any feed store ??? have you tried the submergable lights ???

Tried all the feed stores in slidell and none had it. The only submersible lights i have found are pretty expensive

it is called mendahaden meal. some places should be able to order it for you. mix it with water and flour. just enough water to wet it and just enough flour to make it stick together.

grandpaw used pogie meal with flour and water. sometimes he would mix pogie oil instead of water. called it shrimp dope

Pogey mean is what i use..

catch a crab and smash it and throw it back in... The crab fat attracts them also...

Meal and mud balls works good.
Or meal in a stocking.
Or pogy oil in a jar with a small hole punched in the top so it can leak out one drop at a time.
I saw some oil at West Marine in Lake Charles. They have it in gallon jugs.
One jug was called oil, the other was called pogy milk. Not sure what the milk is.

where do ya'll get the pogy meal from i cant find it anywhere and how much is it?

I wonder how much trouble it would be to bring home an ice chest full of poggies and grind them up to make your own "shrimp" bait?

If so, what did you put the bait in? Old water bottles, ziplock bags, make balls and then freeze them?????

Once upon a time, you could get scrap(pogy meal that got wet) from the pogy plants in Cameron, for free. They have one old guy who all he did was push a wheel barrow and a shovel around picking up scrap.
They have drums full of scrap that they have to get rid of somehow.
Just call Omega Protein and see if they still give it away.

Pogie meal is the ticket. My ole saying is : If you aint chumming they aint cumming.Seriously I use this stuff many way's. For the fastest result I'd use the cheapest brand of baking flour and mix it with the pogie meal ;try to simulate making meat balls then pitch pogie balls in area that you want to cast for your bait. Wait about 15 minutes before using the cast net Good luck .I hope I've been of some help to ya.

Pogy plant will give away scrap if you bring your own 5 gal. bucket but it has to have a lid. they will not fill any sacks.

does anyone know if there are any pogie plants around the new orleans area?

Currie & Son's on broad st in Lake Charles has it. I think we bought 5lb for $5

jonathan, there are tons of plants in bellechasse all the way to Buras.... i grew up down there..... just take a drive on hwy 23 and go south, you'll see them !!

There is one pogy plant in Empire. On the East side of the road.
If you pass over the Empire bridge, you went too far.
You can see it from the top of the bridge.

that one, and there is one by jesuit bend on the right hand side of the road as your heading to Buras...
