Calcasieu River

We're going kayak/float the river near Oberlin, I was hoping someone could share a few tips for catching fish. I was told we could target red eye (I assume Kentucky?). What baits are working best?

2 years ago we smoked em with white spinner baits and then tried this year and nothing.. Water was real high and haven't been back since

I grew up on the river up there. Black bandit squarebill, rebel crawfish, beetle spins, smaller ones (1/32 oz) you'll catch bream too, I like the orangish or chartreuse colors. Also watermelon red, green orange, regular watermelon brush hogs or lizards. Green pumpkin and red too. Throw around stumps and lay downs. The river should be right as long as we don't get anymore turd floaters up north. Good luck.
