I saw this in a magazine. Anyone ever used landscaping lights for light at night while fishing in a boat

They last up to 8 hrs Attachment 68179

I wouldn't think that they would be bright enough.

I only bring three lights with me while night fishing

anchor light(law)

headlight(for finding bait and spotting catch)

qbeam(driving)

look on ebay for led lights. theyre cheap now and a lot smaller. you could easily hook them up in nice spots on your boat and light up everything for cheap.

lots of different options for not much. buy a switch and run them where you need them.

I would think those landscape lights are best used for you to see your line and landing fish, maybe as a boat marker lights to save your battery since they aren't very bright and wont attract as many bugs as bright lights will.

I could see them being used like a night light just to see what your doing but not for attracting fish

Ya um what u Gunna use dat for. I keep a flash light handy . Stern light to see poll. What u fishing for is it somthing that will creep you line? When I fish at night I go fore poll benders and use fresh crab or live wonded bate. No lights pointed at water except flashlight during fight. And same for moveing around all the trip hazards I put down with no light .

I seem to do better with motionless lighting on land but seem to scare fish with moveing lights in da boat.

These wouldn't be for fishing. I should have been more clear. These would be used for light on the boat to see what your doing rigging, looking for tackle etc. . Not to shine on the water for fishing.

then yes they would be good for that but if it were me I would use something like this instead: http://www.tmart.com/12-LED-Portable...FVFp7AodMWAAfQ
its easy to hang anywhere or set on any surface and has its own batteries that last for several all night trips plus it is much brighter then those landscape lights but also adjustable to just the right amount of light you want. not saying buy this one but there are many styles of these for around $10 and if you find one that uses C or D batteries it lasts several longer. I use them around the house for hurricane lights and the batteries (3 C batteries) last around 36 hours of constant use on hi (bright) setting.

if you want something less obvious, try red or green rope lights strung round your T top and under the rails so it doesn't hurt your night vision looking out

stern running light, when sitting still(on anchor) all you have to have on is the back light, it is running light when used with the front, but then called anchor light when you are moored or anchored

Ratdog 06-10-2014 04:07 PM

May I ask do you plan to fish with lights on or will u turn um off?

And how many fish with lights to attract fish above water? And ahow many fish stable lights below water ie. resting on bottom.?

Also if you fish with lights above water how far from light do u fish or boat with light. Next to boat cast away from boat on bottom or top water jig?

I ask all this cuz it seems ther is a few that do well and some that strike out and I wonder if it's in the tequnique for night fishing.

Not hijacking thred op just more light questions.

alphaman 06-10-2014 06:01 PM

Bro get out an do it. Something wicked about night fishing in da fog. My favorite thing to do . I go alone alot . But the time befor I went with a guy that did the mad dog 20 20 and he was a hoot. What ever have fun and I find that more time with lights out is time better spent in peace.

Another time is when the shad is running sort of a static sound all around as they move in and you can hear them as they run from big fish . Something you will never see or hear in daylight or forget.

Might strike out one night but the more u go the more fish u Gunna get.and some big ones and sharks too!
