Grand Chenier/Mermentau

Contemplating trying to find a place to put my camper in the Grand Chenier area. Guessing that access to the Mermentau River launch would be good as well as access to Joseph's Harbor. Any intel on crabbing in the lower Mermentau would be helpful. Also, any info regarding access to close rigs out the mouth of the Mermentau for specks, etc. would be appreciated.

That's a good location and not too heavily invaded with outlaws. Both launches have a degree of security and free launches.

What do you know about the fishing and possibly crabbing opportunities in the lower Mermentau Chip?

Is there still boat launches near the bridge and La 82?

we used to fish those rigs down there back in high school and college but they were always so hit or miss
for us anyway maybe not for someone that is a pro
mostly trout and mackerel sometimes cobia
all you can ask for gaftops on the bottom if a meat haul is what you are into
river is good for reds and drum we always did pretty good and a lot of reds at the mouth sometimes nice size gars and stingrays
a lot of blast and casts back in the day
the good ol days lol

good thing i can say about those rigs is there was always a good bit of rigs to bounce back and forth to and fro

actually I'm just realizing that my profile pic was taken at the launch down there on the mermentau

Crabs I don't know. 20 yrs ago the first rigs were in 30-40' of water with few trout.

The Public launch I've used is a couple miles north of the bridge. I recall Red fish were thick. Rockefeller ain't but a few mile drive.

I think Specs can be found with a little scouting. Used to duck hunt a little there and it was good.

Redfishing can be great, crabbing can be decent to good. Never really got on trout there but I normally fish elsewhere when it's calm enough to go offshore.
