What do y'all use to cut / prepare the onions?

Cut the top off and peel then we have a heavy duty cutter similar to a french fry cutter . Sort of drop them on the table and they open up . You leave the root on then core it after it's fried . I've seen some cutters for home use online that don't cost very much .
