Getting old paint off a deck

Anybody know the best way to get old paint off a deck? This big sander isn't working out like I thought it would. I'm thinking belt sander one board at a time.

turn the boards over:D

Replaced some cracked boards and let me tell ya, I've had all the nail pulling I can stand!

A pressure washer will make those boards "fur-faced" and, if you're not careful, you will eat 'em up. The best solution short of replacin' it is, like someone mentioned...flip the boards. The belt sander will work if time is no issue.

Boards are too old to flip. The get tore up pulling nails out. What about paint stripper then washing with regular pressure washer?

what do you plan to do to the boards after you strip them?

You need a drum sander that they use to strip wood floors, It's like a big belt sander.

They told if that drum gets unlevel it will screw it up, then I would owe them $500. Didn't reccomend for a deck.

This is the deck for my wife's snow cone stand which is seasonal. About this time every year I start doing the maintenance work that needs to be done for the place to look good. This deck gets high traffic so we have to paint it every year. I didn't paint last year cuz I am tired of it and wanted the paint to start flaking off. I want to get rid of the paint and seal it so I do.t have to mess with it every year. I am also redoing the railing.

We plan on opening around the 25th.

not sure how this would work but how about putting good coats of paint then some type of traction tape or somthin like rino liner on it, may hold up better.... just a thought

Boards are probably too cupped. Sounds like a belt sander is the best shot. It will still have to be sanded after using a pressure washer, anyway.

I would hit it with a pressure washed but test it first to make sure it doesn't damage the wood . Then let it dry and stain it with a full body stain . Or replace it with TREX composite deck boards ....zero maintence
