mako boats

anyone here with any kind of experience with mako boats? looked at some of the bay boats today and thought i was looking at cheap boats but the prices i got said different. i always thought mako was in the low lines of bay boat.

LaAngler 05-17-2009 01:27 AM

now it is 1:25 AM so take this with a grain of salt but this is a touchy subject with a lot of people, fact is that tracker marine has a bad rep. seacraft went downhill and so the did big mako's i know this for a fact.

the inshore line are basically are the old kenner molds. i noticed some cheap hardware on these boats (deck lids, cleats, latches, wiring, etc.) when i looked at them.

i'm not sure what is fact and what is fiction.

take a look and see for yourself.....

now i'm sure after i post this someone will reply that they have a mako inshore model that performs flawlessly, and I wouldn't doubt it.

I agree with LAangler on this one. The Mako reputation went down hill when Tracker got the line as have all the other lines that tracker purchased. You may want to contact a guy names CPT NEMO on the other web site because he has had extensive problems out of his Mako and I believe had to sue them under the Lemon laws. There are much better boats out there. For the money, I think the Sea Hunt would be hard to beat. Personally, I'd buy a used boat and avoid all the sales tax. You might want to look at boattraderonline.com or craigslist.com.

Bill Kenner sold the old Kenner line to Tracker Marine. Then decided to discontinue the Kenner brand, so Tracker converted all Kenner hulls to Mako. If you even go inspect the serial numbers, they start KEN......

Solid hull, but Tracker has used cheaper parts for them. TOO pricey also and tough to deal with.

Bill Kenner has since started with his K2 marine. Frontier & Black jack

My Brother in law has a Black Jack the only problem I see with them is my name isn't on the title of one, I had back surgery a few years back and because of that I pick my days carefully or I suffer after just first 4 hrs. into the trip in my boat, we took B.N.L.'s boat and I can stay out on it all day just a good ride.

I have been doing a lot of research on bay boats the last month. I can tell you the best ones I have found as far as durability for the price are#1 Lake and Bay (if your wallet is BIG) #2 Ranger #3 Black Jack/Frontier #4 Skeeter #5 Triton

MallardFish 05-18-2009 03:07 PM

Frontier

Doesn't the frontier boats have a lot of wood. If I'm not mistaken its the same hull as the blackjack, but is not compisite? Correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah i have an 94 22ft gravios with a f250 and the boat is a tank. ride is not that great and im just ready to upgrade. would get another one made the way i wanted it but they quit making fishing boats and are goverment contract now. ive been looking probably for the last year or two and i pretty much narrowed it down to skeeter or blazer bay. i just looked at the makos becase i just wanted to compare. i always heard they were cheap boats but still had to go look. i got a price of 42 for a 22 with a 250 opti. kinda laughed because i thought he was joking. im so use of my boat being so solid when i hit the sides of these glass boats it kinda scares me. the only one that dosent vibrate lke a drum is the skeeter. the triton i could play a tune on it. if i had the money for any bay boat right now id have to go with the 24 yellowfin with the f350. might just use the aluminum for another 10 years and save the money.

Have you guys ever checked out the Nautic Stars? If you did whats your opinions?

cmdrost 05-18-2009 04:05 PM

frontier has no wood. Same hull as blackjack, just not finished cap on inside.

"W" 05-18-2009 04:12 PM

Now I will take a Shearwater any day just dont want to pay that for a boat

huntin fool 05-18-2009 04:14 PM

2 boats im getting once older- triton bass boat, and a nautic star

SULPHITE 05-18-2009 04:19 PM

Nautis are popular

Nautic star are like crocs and sweatpants...everyones got'em!! I like them though...decent boats.

flounder_smacker 05-18-2009 04:20 PM

pathfinder= blazer bay. can get the same hull for 10 less. LA i never rode in the hydra sport but i hear they are heavy boats but they look nice. i guess they're heavy cause they are built well? i asked the boys on the hull truth about bay boats and they told me gause was the best out there. they are pretty ugly, kinda look like my grandpaws shrimp skif. anyone want to start a donation collection for a 24 yellowfin?

nauticstar

i just purchased a 1810 nauticstar. so far the only problem i have is with the 90 i only go about 35 mph.the sales person told me it was a 40mph boat.bs.the ride is dry and it cuts through the waves well.does anyone else have any pros and cons for nauticstar.also will a ss prop help out with the top end.i am nervous that when i get a trolling motor and batteries it will be even slower.i paid 23000 with tax title and license.msrp was 28000.
