Reel oil

Curious, what types of grease and oil can I use to clean and lubricate my reels with. My dad always just used 3in1 oil but grease I don't know. I have 2 basspro baitcasters that I used in salt water and need to take them apart for a cleaning. Thanks

the only grease I ever used was the very thin white lithium grease for the gears, regular grease is just to thick, same with regular weight oils, only use thin lightweight oils like 3-1 or sewing machine oil on the bearings

Quantum makes a reel oil called hot sauce that is pretty good in my opinion.

As far as grease goes, "Reel Butter" is good for gears and other moving parts, and is easy to find at Academy, maybe Wal-Mart. For drag washers I like Cal's Drag Washer grease (Google), maybe overkill for what we do, but it does work well. For oil I use Lightening Oil from Boca Bearings, but I'm sure the 3in1 is good also.
