Transferring Microsoft Works

Old laptop is giving trouble, so I bought a new one and it doesn't have Microsoft Works on it and all my documents from the other one is Microsoft Works. I don't want to have to buy it since I feel like I already paid for it on the last 5 computers that I bought. Can I get it from the other computer and put it on the new one? Looks like all the newer decent computers aren't coming with much software these days.
I don't feel like I am stealing the program, since it is on my computer.
So can I take it from one to the other and how?
Thanks

Works is a program that comes preinstalled on your harddrive. They have a cd that comes with the computer, but is usually company specific (dell, toshiba, hp..etc) due to drivers working correctly. Best thing to do is put all your files on a flashdrive and transfer them over to the new pc. It is not possible to transfer one program to another computer.

Here is an option: microsoft has a free trial of office which has word among other things. Upload your files via flashdrive and save..keep in mind it is a trial, but it sounds like you are more concerned with transferring the files to the new pc.

Hope that helps you out.

Did the transfer from one computer to the other with the stick drive but the new computer won't read the files because it doesn't have Works on it.
The computer came with Micrsoft Office's free trail offer loaded in it. I had a CD of Microsoft Word but it won't open Works either. Damn new computers are coming without much software loaded into it. Already had to return one to the store. Thought Asus for $1200.00 would of been good but it has its flaws.

MS Word 2007 will open Works documents from version 6.0 to 9.0. This option should be on Word 2010 also.

When you open Word and click on open file, select the type. You should get the option to open Works ver 7.0 and Works ver 6.0~9.0

Try right clicking on the files and open with(word)
If that doesn't work download open office it's a free program and should open all of your docs...
