Rails or Marsh hens

Does anyone hunt these birds? I see tons of them when hunting but have never hunted them. Does anyone here ever shoot them? How do you cook them? Are they good to eat? The bag limit is very liberal. If they are good to eat I think I'll be taking some this year.

They are very good to eat. You can pot roast them just like ducks

Thanks, I've read up quite a bit on them and think I'll give them a try this year. As liberal as the bag limits are and as many as we have around you'd think more people would hunt them. I'ver read that they taste better than dove.

Never tried them. But I bet they are pretty tastey since they don't fly very much. That usually makes for good tender meat.

I hunted them out of a pirouge between AM and PM hunts. One man paddles the other shoots. They are very elusive when they see people. Get a long stick with a loop string on the end to pick them up. The marsh banks are very soft when you try to retrieve them
