MDF cabinets

I am looking at building some cabinets in my shop at home and was considering using MDF to build them, anyone used it in an area like this? They will be in an inclosed area and painted.... what yall think?

I think I would go with a BC plywood due to moisture. I've ussed MDF and it does not like humidity.

mdf will swell and fall apart in the humidity. i have a sheet of it doing it in my shop right now.

sanded pine would be my choice for a shed

your can get exterior grade MDF the name is Exteria . most cabinet shops has access to it. ive cut a pc and threw it in a bucket of water and it didnt swell . you can also use a cellular PVC sheet

generally for cabinets outside we use spanish cedar

These are just in a work area so I am looking for inexpensive but I will be building a set for my outdoor kitchen/patio area that I may look into that cedar for..

or check into getting thermally modified hardwood, they "cook" it at a higher temp in the kiln . i had a sample louvered shutter made out of it and im pretty impressed. its about the same cost as spanish cedar but it actually comes with a warranty from the company who "cooks" it

for the interior you could use poplar. it's inexpensive and pretty durable. for the outdoor kitchen we are building them out of bricks on my houses. weatherproof and inexpensive.
