Going Offshore Saturday

Any body out there think that it will be worth it to go offshore this weekend. My buddy just bought a new 28 ft Triton with twin 200's. We want to go test it out. Says 3 ft seas, but we all know how that goes.

Think we will catch this early in the year?
Know any hot spots at about 70 miles out?

With all the new laws all they have left to catch is gafttop and seaweed

maybe a few ling showing up, AJ's, snapper if you have a secret compartment ;)

wait till it says 2's then it will be 3's

correction. you won't be testing the boat, only the captain.

if you launch out of mermentau river, run out to east cam 280 block.

there are a couple satellite platforms to the southeast also. Put you around 70 miles.

272 block is about 55 miles

they are starting to see a lot of cobia moving up the west coast of florida right now, but you may be able to catch a few grouper or mangroves also

WC 280 was a great fishing area when I fished offshore.
WC 368 out of Cameron was also. It was a platform with an old jack up rig converted to a production facilities and a catwalk between them.

How do I look up coordinates for these rigs?

LOL @ your avatar! Make sure you guys have an EPIRB or something similar!

Purple Back 04-08-2010 03:55 PM

EPIRB?

Micah 04-08-2010 04:02 PM

i'm sure someone can explain it better

if i'm wrong then sorry......but i'm sure thats what it is

Yeah...emergency position indicating radiobeacon...probably a good idea to get one if you're gonna be making long runs offshore. I'd never go offshore w/o one. Can be the difference in drifting w/ a prayer and drifting w/o one. Safety First
