Dink 02-07-2010 11:55 AM

I do put rotel in mine, but just for the extra color and flavor. 1 small can for a big pot is all you need

tomatoes

Don't know about tomatoes, but a small can of tomatoe sauce and rotel will make a huge difference in the tast. It won't give it a tomatoe taste. You would have to taste it to understand. Talk about Gooooooood!

As for the okra and tomatoe sauce gumbo, that is some good stuff too. Kinda looks nasty, but is good. My partents call that an old fashioned gumbo.

I put fresh tomatoes in the okra when I cook it down for freezing before making in to Gumbo. It helps to break the slime of the okra without having to use vinegar.

The slime of the okra is what thickens the gumbo???

I have almost stopped using Rotel when cooking.......instead I use Jalapeno pepper, which produces just about the same flavor and is a lot cheaper. Remember, the seeds inside the pepper are what make it really hot.

davethefish1 05-23-2010 02:33 PM

That's True!

and when you roast them until the skin turns black:pissed: and put 'em in a plastic bag for a l'il while to help get the burnt skin off, then get the seeds and white parts out they are tremendous! I quit buying Rotel:shaking: a long time ago.
