Jugging on da Calcasieu

Made a last minute trip on tha river last night throwing out noodles. We used night crawlers and soap. Threw out about 40 of em. By the time we finished we already had one the line. It was only about 12" do we tossed it back.

We went back at 10:30 to check our lines. This was my wife and daughters first time to go the river at night. We ended up catching two more small ones and two decent ones.

We didn't keep any of them. The biggest had skin missing about 2/3 down its body. So it was thrown back. The last jug or two had the other of the bigger fish.

I've never used soap before so this was a learning experience for me. I was told to use a cheese cutter for cutting the soap. How do you go bout this process?

All in all this was a blast for my family. Looking forward to trying the intracoastol canal next weekend.

Ole soap has been a trick for awhile.. Never really had luck. Used to run it in our nets, and traps.
I need to rig me up some jugs. I got some areas that we used to run trot lines in and slay em.

Good job on gettin' on em!

Had a trot line going from my dock, all the way across the westfork. Son, you want to see Numbers and big fish? Do that.

:D Could only run it at night due to the boats.

We used to use ivory soap. My dad had a recipe he would melt the soap down and pour it in a pan and mix some crap together let it harden the cut it in cubes. But it still didn't perform like live. U shoulda said something yesterday. I had 2 buckets of live ditch crawfish was gonna use for bait. Ended up dumpin em back in da ditch!

Shrimp is a real good bait for cats, but I had the best luck with live bream on Lake Vernon...lots of nice flatheads. I have seen some folks catching them on crawfish tails off the bank and they were flat slaying them cats.

What's your target area on the Intracoastal and where will you launch out of ??? Freezer is in need of a "meat run"...

Thanks,
Hydro
