New herb garden

Found our old water trough helping my grandpa clean up at his house this weekend. The bottom was rusted out so I took it home and used it as a little herb garden. Beats the Hell out of a ton of pots scattered around.

Looks nice too. Glad to see the rosemary seperate or the thing would take over half the trough.

Thanks Cap. It wasn't cheap filling that damn thing with potting soil!

The rosemary really took off this year. It was pretty pathetic looking for a while. I also put the mint in a separate pot. The plant I had last year grew like a weed, so I wanted to keep it separate.

Mint is like kudzu .it will take over a bed so bad you will have to round up a few times to kill it all. #experience!

Matt next time just fill it with any ole dirt and garden soil in the top 6 inches. Hate to say it but all that soil was waisted have ya ever pulled any veggie up with over 6"roots?? think about it. ya aint growing root veggies just herbs and peppers. You coulda filled it with gravel or something way more cheaper than garden soil.

Mint does take over and grow every where but it dies every winter and sure smells good mowing or weed wacking.

Yea, I kind of figured I was going overboard. I did use six 50 lb bags of cheap drainages gravel to get about 6" of rock on the bottom and used two 40lb bags of compost as some filler to cut on the cost. Still needed a good bit of potting soil to finish it off. It was close to $80 when it was all said and done.

I'm hoping the mint takes off quickly. Goes good with bourbon and tea!

We have peppermint, spearamint, pineapple mint lemon balm, lemon grass etc growing under trees and in flower beds every where. I make like a lemon mohito I muddle mont leaves in a bit of ice add a big lemon wedge and squish that in too Add some bourbon and seven up and man that stuff is good.
