Advice for visitor

Hi all,

I am living in Lake Charles for the Summer for work and am looking for a spot to fish after work. I have a small boat with little 4 hp motor and just want to putter around and catch a few while I'm down here. I have both salt/fresh water tackle, and fly fishing stuff but know absolutely nothing about the area or local conditions.

Any friendly advice for a newcomer?

Thanks in advance!

The Salt Water Barrier might be a good place to start. It has a boat launch on site with both fresh and salt water. It is located at the end of Mims Rd in Westlake. You can catch bass, stripers, reds and specks there.

Sent from my EVO

LNG. You can launch from cal point. Do you have a trolling motor. That would help a bunch.

Prien Lake, below the 210 bridge is probably best for small boat fishing.

I may try that myself.

Pm sent.

No trolling motor

Forgot to add that the boat I have is a 12' portable, I can launch from anywhere which is nice, but it doesn't have any equipment aside from the small outboard/oars. The boat is extremely lightweight so cant handle any crazy conditions but is fine in regular conditions.

Make sure u got registration numbers for that boat.

Cali2Calcasieu 06-21-2011 03:57 PM

Thanks for the tips. I got the registration but have to put the new numbers on. It is the folding boat, and its awesome low profile really light weight and surprisingly waterproof....the 4 hp pushes it pretty fast because its so light, and I can carry it around like a surfboard.

And I am good for beer/gas money for any invites. Hell I'll even retireve snagged lures! Thanks all!

Better not lose those oars, because no one down here knows where to find em, or knows what they are:*****:

Do an image search on google for Portaboat...we got it instead of an inflatable for our big boat because you can stow it anywhere. I was a little leery about it at first, but it has been a really great purchase for us...its been awesome in fact.

Seen those before on the internet. Very cool. Would make a good duck boat too.
