Vermillion River

Well I'm moving out of Opelousas and away from my little ponds and small bodies of water that I fish for fun during the week and I'm going to Carencro. I don't know any one over there, but I was thinking that now I'll be a little closer to the Vermillion. I know the Vermillion is terribly nasty anywhere in Lafayette, but does any one fish it north of I-10. Is there even a launch to easily access that area?

Also if you live in Carencro and have a pond, I'd love to fish it. I'll keep the fish or throw them back or even bring new fish to it, whatever the owner desires. I'll even keep the fish, clean them, and hand them off to you if that's what you'd want lol

All in all, I'm just looking for some new close to house places to wet a line in the evenings when I don't have anything else to do. Doesn't matter if its from the bank/yak/boat.

Around Milton and we murder the cats.

I don't fish by the crap plants or anything. Around Milton and further south and a little north of airport.

do any bass fishing in there? I've heard it has a healthy population of choupique, which I don't mind catching, they hit topwater lol

Got a couple little shoot offs that hold bass and a few sacs. Pm me and I will show you a couple.

I fish the river often....been eating catfish out of it for years. There is some decent bass fishing when it is low. This year has not been too good with all the rain.

Not much help here but I've fished it south of Abbeville. We've caught bass, bream, sacs, and cats.

Any idea what it would take to get it put on the LDWF list to get stocked with bass ect? As others have said, there are some there, but it could be a great fishery with a little boost from stocking.

If the water would be 1' deeper around the banks it would be a lot better.

Appreciate the help clampy, but honestly I'd like to learn it myself. If I start having trouble then I'll hit you up lol

Don't mind you throwing out some bait selection even though I'm sure it's the normal stuff.

I live on the vermillion river near the ambassador caffery bridge. I put my kayak in and catch bream, sacalait, and bass. My trick is to fish the mouths of the drainage ditches and concrete coulees were they meet the river. Catch bass on black humdingers and everything else on tube jigs under a cork or beetle spins. I usually fish it in the spring. Good luck!

Try this, the canal to the right after the airport. I have always known it as Bayou Black. it is beautiful back there, ALOT of structure, cypress knees, etc and it is a drain for a swamp. if you look at the map there is a shallow lake at the end. i have been back there a number of times in my 16ft alweld. It is a short ride from the landing too.

There is another canal north called "Ruth Canal." it is the canal that is behind lake martin and it connects the Teche with the Vermilion. There is a structure so you cant get from one to the other but i have heard there is good sac fishing when the swamp is draining there.
