Crabbing bait

I have some freshly cleaned bass carcasses and was wondering if anyone has ever used them successfully to catch crabs. We always use chicken but I like the thought of using the leftovers from one trip to bait for another. If not, what is your go to bait and does bait matter less than good tide movement?

fish carcasses is the best....second good ole chicken legs...

I've always thought fresh fish was the best bait also. Whenever I go crabbing, I start with turkey or chicken but always try to catch a few fish. Bass, trout, croakers, reds ...shouldn't really matter.

Beef Melt - Very bloody piece of cow entrails (maybe pancreas?) Any butcher shop should have it.

You using a crab trap with a bait box?

If so go with fish carcasses.

When I hand line I use chicken leg quarters.

I even freeze fish carcass in a gallon bag and use later they usually out catch the people crabbing with chicken or melt. I've used specks reds bass bream doesn't matter, they all work very well.

Fresh cut mullet works really good.

I find trout is the best....... Red fish not so good.

LadyFishKiller 07-18-2014 08:04 AM

I was always told the oily the better.

keakar 07-18-2014 10:25 AM

I found any fresh fish was better then store bought bait but not catfish, I caught hard head cats one time to use for bait and still caught a few but it was like half what you normally catch so you could tell that it wasn't a very good a bait.

seams even crabs don't want to eat hard heads if they have a choice

The gulp turkey neck thing was funny as hell.
Caught five dozen Saturday at the Rock using melt. Could have caught more but had to leave because of the time. Still missed the tourney weigh in :(
