Aluminum Bay Boat

I am beginning my Research on a Custom Built Aluminum Bay Boat.

I am Thinking of Going with a 20? Center Console with a 2? Gill Bracket.

My Question is will that be Long Enough to Handle Rough Lakes and Bays?

Keep in mind that it will be Pretty Heavy, built out of all 3/16? Aluminum.

I had Casey St Romain - Sportsman Fabrication in Morgan City build one for me about 4 years ago. He'll build it anyway you want and does an excellent job. Mine is 21' with a 2' gill bracket and 7' bottom. The only thing I might change is to a 6' bottom. I't won't cut thru the rough water as well as a fiberglass but does a great job all around from marsh to offshore.

What's the ball park on a hull like that? Just a hull, no rigging.

I have had a 20' Charles leonard and it was a great boat. my podna has a 22' stortsmans fab hull [casey] and the 22' boat is ALOT better in vermillion bay. both have 2' gill brackets. the 20'er has a 200 merc and the 22'er has a 300 merc. mine runs low 60's and his runs low 70's. nice to haul butt on a calm day!

mine was 20 x 6' his was 22x 7.5' a chop in the bay was hands down a way better ride in the longer boat. i'd go 24' if I could.

I used the 20' boat to hunt the wax, go to the camp, and bass fish as well, so that may be a consideration

now, finish work is no contest, the sportsman's fab boat is a work of art. you probly want to go with casey.

Nice. I’m not familiar with this style at all. What’s the purpose of the gill bracket?

smooth move 08-26-2019 08:09 AM
