Friday Cal/Pass

Thinking about going out of Cal/Pass a few miles and look for some Triple Tail and Lemon. I know Adam found some Lemon fish a couple of weekends ago, but are there any reports of triple tail around Cal Pass being caught? If not, I hope to change that soon. Gotta change out a fuel pump and run it Thursday, then its off to the Pass.

I was thinking bout going this weekend but it is calling for 4' to 6'. Trolled a weedline 40 miles out and no tripeltail on it

Ray 06-08-2010 10:28 PM

We went out Sunday, but the weather for the previous 3 days had the water messed up.
We didn't see good water till we got about 42 miles out.
We saw a couple schools of Bonita and just 1 school of Pogy. That ain't good.
Caught 1 drum about 15 miles out and 1 King about 42 miles out.
We didn't see any Trigger Fish around the platforms at all and just saw a few Spades.

That figures, I don't get a chance to go very often being 4 hours away, but it seems when The gulf has been calm for several days, and I get the chance to run down there, it'll kick back up. Ray, you must be coming back in today. Can't you stay out another week and let the seas calm back down.:rotfl:

I think the plan is to stop at the close in rigs and jig for AJs...but I hear we may need to get to the lump before sunset

I am offshore for 2 more weeks. Got out here yesterday.
Winds and seas have been flat calm since Tues. morning.

QUACKHEAD 06-10-2010 11:43 PM

On a lighter note, The fuel pump change went smooth, so the Auqua Sport is back on the water. I went to ?????? ditch today and caught about 125 # of medium size shrimpzez. We didn't get out there till around 3:15 and we finished about 7:30p. Going back Friday evening when we get back in from fishing. No amount of big ones, but I think I have this winters gumbo and creole covered. Hope I can find some larger ones tomorrow.

Hey Ray, Wilkersons Weather forcast is predicting 3-5 footers in the evening. What does your resources predict?
Anyway, I am going to give it a shot in about 5 more hours. I'm going to run the ship channel out of cal/pass and stop at a few structures along the way. Hope to find some good fighters out there. I'll post if things work out well.

Ray 06-10-2010 11:59 PM

I am 60 miles South of Southwest Pass.
Seas are 2 to 4, winds are 11 knots, gusting to 18 knots.
Not sure about over on that side.
It is a little late for the Ling to be close in. Prolly find them
35 miles or more offshore.

QUACKHEAD 06-11-2010 12:10 AM

The last bouy is 29 miles out. Not close enough?? Oh well, maybe I can catch some trout or pompano. Got in on some of them last year, dang they are good off the pit. Not sure how far out I'll actually go, It will depend on the seas. I just want to hook into something good. Then go get some more shrimp. Ray you know the Intercoastal pretty good, isn't there a couple of cuts past the Salt Ditch towards Sabine that goes to the back of Black Lake. Might try there in the evening tomorrow.

Ray 06-11-2010 01:25 AM

The Salt Ditch goes to Black Lake. I don't know of any other back way into Black Lake except from Kelso Bayou
from the South end.
There is a ditch that goes to Black Bayou, which goes all the way to Shell Island and then into the Sabine Lake.
The old Black Bayou has been plugged off at the ICW.
The ditch is marked with day markers at the ICW just like the Salt Ditch. But you can get to the Sabine Lake
faster if you stay in the ICW.
