Glenn, some people on here that don't know you may start saying "just how big a boy are you"!!!!! to break a rod like that!

You surely have the technique for hook sets down! Must have been the drag too tight!

FF_T_Warren 06-19-2010 07:17 AM

To break that part of the rod id imagine a defect.

Ditto that...
How old is that rod?

mcjaredsandwich 06-19-2010 08:02 AM

cork handle looks pretty new still, may just be good maintenance.

Reverend Redfish 06-20-2010 09:41 PM

Me and a friend were out in the Bos-tawn having a blast catching rat reds and the stick just busted. Never have I seen one break in that place on a hook set. The rod may be 6-7 months old, somewhere around there. I loved the feel of that rod.

LaAngler 06-20-2010 10:03 PM

maybe a defect in the blank, i've seen an extra heavy falcon break right there due to a big amberjack.

Dink 06-20-2010 10:35 PM

Dang pond bass willdo it everytime apparently. ......

Salty - I never mentioned the "maker" of the rod.... just shared my negative experience... Doesnt matter to me if it were a zebco - I'd still be bummed out...

You are very perceptive, but none the less wrong about my intentions for posting my mishap... I only share my fishing experiences, good or bad. I'm not asking for squat, nor am I bashing anyone's product.

I didn't mean to insinuate that at all and my apologies if it sounded that way.

gonzalesdave 06-21-2010 09:12 AM

could have had a hairline crack (mfg defect OR from riding the boat, etc) but it would not keep me from buying a rod from billy. the fact that he said he will make it right is more important than the rod actual breaking. granted i would be bummed, but again, he said he would make it right.

did you break it using mono?

Ray 06-21-2010 09:14 AM

I have broken an All Star Rod using 12 lb. mono. I was stuck in some grass and pulled, crack, last 12" popped off.
