Weed Control
 

I did the weed and feed in April of this year. It worked pretty well, however I am getting more and more weeds in the lawn over the last 2 weeks. Can anybody recommend a product that works pretty well right now.

I am new at lawn care and are more confused than ever.

I actually got some stuff from Home Depot that did a heckuva job for me. When I get home tonight, I'll look at it and let you know. I know it was in a black bottle that looks like a spray bottle and hooks to your water hose.

i have found over my years of lawn care that most of the "weed and feeds" out there dont control weeds, the best i've found is the weed and feed by scotts, Scotts® Bonus® S Southern Weed And Feed is the best for controlling weeds and fertilizing, i have had bad luck this year trying the turf builder by scotts though, will be going back to southern weed and feed next year

What kind of grass do you have, if you have bermuda you can spray some stuff on there that will kill everything but bermuda grass.

You say that in jest however, last year I had a very large tree removed from my yard. The truck tore up my grass, which is how I am in the situation I am in now. While they were cutting the tree, the lift truck busted a hydrolic line and spilt fluid in an area. To this day nothing grows in that spot. Not even the stupid weeds. I realize that crude oil and this fluid are different. However, if you need some grass killer get some used hydrolic fluid.

St Augustine is the grass, and a bunch of weeds.

2-4-D will not kill burmuda

he's is S.O.L he has St. Aug, 2-4-d kills that.

You can also use used crab boil water to kill grass.

it kills the grass along the fence line between me and neighbor and he has St. Aug.

I have used Ortho Weed B Gon for St. Augustine Lawns and it worked good.

I use Ferti-lome winterizer in a gray bag, in the Fall and Winter.
It kills the seeds before they can germinate in the spring.
Then I use the Ferti-lome weed and feed in the spring then every 2 months afterwards.
I have had good luck in the past 5 or so years. But it is expensive.

I was mistaken it says injury may result. I have never had this problem so I appologize.

So at lunch I went to the store and bought the Scots anytime Weed and Feed for Southern Lawns. The dude at the store said this should work. As I left the store the monsoon began. Do I apply this stuff when the yard is wet? or do I have to wait until it is dry again?

The directions on the bag are somewhat vague.

i have applied it in the rain before should be fine, if in doubt hit it with the water hose

weed never last long enough to be a problem. OH ,,, y'all said weeds.

I use 2-4d on my yard every spring to kill clovers and I have St. Augustine grass. I mix 1 ounce per gallon of water.

the problems with most weed and feeds is that they way our weather is down here,its ususally too early or too late in the season to do both at the same time. You should put down the weed part in late winter or very early spring to kill the weed seeds in the soil before they germinate(like ray said) However, you do not want to fertilize your lawn till after the frosts are gone and the good grass starts flushing out. So, its better to treat with a pre emergent herbicide like dimension early,then come back with a good balanced fertilizer a little later as the weather warms in the spring. Most weed and feeds dont do a real good job on weeds that are already up. Vantage and image will kill most of your weeds in your beds and lawns. Sedgehammer is a real good product for killing them curssssed nutsedges or coco grass.Remember, pre emergent herbicides dont last forever,so re-application after 3-4 mo. is necessary,specially during rainy seasons.
