Buying a boat need help

Hey guys,
Buying a boat but not sure what to get. I fish freshwater mostly and just started fishing saltwater. Should i get A BASS or BAY boat. I looked at the XPRESS but not sure.Any help will be greatly appreciated:help:

Bay! All around fishing machines. Find one that's low profile. Plus if you fish the freshwater lakes and the wind kicks in you won't have to worry about crossing in a bay boat. I like the Frontiers myself or find an older model 98-02 kenner and repower it.

Boats

Some manufacturers make like a Hybrid Bass boat. They look like a bass boat, but they have a deeper V, No Carpet, Stainless Hardware, etc. They run like a Bass Boat, but they can perform in Saltwater. They won't out perform a fiberglass Bay boat in High Seas, but they do ok.

I've personally fished out of one of the rangers, and although it's a little rougher ride then a Bay Boat, you won't find a better all-around rig for bass fishing and Saltwater.

Ranger and Triton are the only ones I know who make these, although there might be more I'm not aware of. Here's some links.

kenner

I have a '01 kenner 19 ft an i love it. Draft is about 1.8 ft with the motor trimmed all the way down if you are getting into saltwater fishing don't waste your money on a bass boat because it can really limit your options sometimes....just my .02

Hey Slick, what size boat you had in mind.

slick143 06-28-2009 08:34 PM

no less than 18'

do you fish vermillion bay/marsh island? if so it will be hard to find a boat that does both well

where do you freshwater fish?

how many people fish with you all the time?

It's important to consider what you will be doing with the rig 80-90% of the time

slick143 06-28-2009 09:09 PM

Vermillion area and Henderson, bayou beniot. I normally fish with son and a friend. But would like to take the whole family which would be me my son, daughter and the ol lady

you wont regret a bay boat, you will regret a bass boat

flounder_smacker 06-28-2009 09:44 PM

i say a 20ft bay boat. either skeeter 20 bay or blazer bay 2020. either one with tabs will fish v-bay and still not to big for fresh water. also look at the blazer bay 2170. good dead rise and is a great riding boat in rough water.

my dads fishing partner has a 21 foot kenner. That is a great boat and gets pretty skinny when it needs to.

I would love to have that thing, although i am currently looking for a flats boat with a surface drive for chasing tail and duck hunting

There is a 21ft Robalo with a 150 mariner for sale at heberts marina, on big lake street road, it's a early model 2000's i believe, i know the guy selling it, older fellow, has a camp out there, absolutely spotless, took very good care of it...i saw a sign that he's asking $10,500.00....just thought i'd pass that along, pretty good boat..especially for the money.

I have an Xpress X22B with the hyperlift hull. If I were to get a glass boat Blazer Bay are very nice for the money. I would not get anything under 21' foot.
