Calcasieu Point

Launched at Calcasieu Marina for the second time this summer and wanted to point out the great service I recieved from the lady who works there. I did not get her name, but she was very helpful and was all about customer service. Very nice dock to park boat and launch is great with plenty of parking.

X2. Love launching there. Easy 3 lane backdown ramp, food, drinks, ice. Only thing they need is a gas pump

Gottogo49 07-19-2010 09:21 PM

Mrs. Elaine Huck or her sister Dela Jean. They are both very sweet and helpful.
Our tax money well spent. The fish cleaning station is first class also.

Calcasieu Point is a very nice facility. Great service, great atmosphere, great location. Usually semi clear water around the area, easy access to the ship channel running north to prien and south. Very versatile launch area.

Jordan.

How do you clean your hardheads?

cmdrost 07-20-2010 08:31 AM

They keep talking about adding fuel in the long term plan of the park, but as with all city projects, they seem in no hurry to act on anything.

And yes....Mrs. Elaine & Della are 1st class nice ladies.

It’s is the best cleaning station I have ever seen in all my years of fishing. Wish more marinas had similar facilities out east.

Haven't seen our property taxes either, years ago you had to buy a launch permit annually but they could not police it well enough. All of my buds that fish with me can't believe how nice the place is. Only wish they would put up signage for "no wake" & "no parking on ramp", some people
just don't get it :pissed:

Calcasieu Point

Best public facility I have seen yet, and the ladys that work there have been very nice every time I have been there. A self car wash at the launch facitlty would be the ultimate addition. I would be happy to pay the fee to wash down the boat right after picking up.

Gottogo49 07-20-2010 04:37 PM

I'm certainly not complaining but the dock could be extended downward a little, on extremely low tides your boat can drift under the dock. It would be nice to have a walkway between the moored boats so you wouldn't have to enter and exit from the bow. I have seen people get tripped up in the trolling motor and bust themselves, especially when trying to carry a bucket of live shrimp. Talen's set up the fuel station at Heberts, why wouldn't they want a similar set up at their place or at Calcasieu Point. They could make it credit card only so that it didn't require constant attention. The problem with unmanned is the potential for a spill. I agree a boat wash would be nice. I bet that it would pay for itself quickly.

The road (hwy 384??) leading to the launch has a self wash car wash and 100% gasoline next door. Not as good as being at the launch, but pretty close.

Gottogo49 07-20-2010 10:09 PM

Yea! Cormie's , They have good food too. Even a Dog wash, would you believe it!

Dog wash? Never saw that....Cal point is a first class launch thats for sure.

Jordan 07-20-2010 10:40 PM

Never seen the dog wash. Food is pretty good, love the car wash, (stalls could be 3' wider) and the gas is normally cheaper than Valero and heberts

Gottogo49 07-21-2010 05:43 AM

Yes, the gas at Cormie's is much cheaper than Hebert's, and it's 100% gasoline.
CITGO on Lake and 18th St. also has 100% gasoline and free air for your tires, when was the last time you saw free air? They even have a full serve island and a repair bay.

As the former Compliance/Regulartory Manager of Talen's Marine & Fuel, I may be able to shed some light on that for you. The set up for what you are talking about (unmanned/credit card scanner) is very expensive. Since the mark up on fuel is small, a huge amount of volume would have to be sold to make a profit. Before that could ever happen, the USCG would have to give them the blessing. Their facility on the LNG is a USCG inspected/permitted facility since oil transfers take place there. I highly doubt the Port Commander of LC would approve an unmanned gasoline fill site at the facility based on the words "unmanned" and "LNG". In the past, we set up small fuel tanks for people on their own property for their boats, but that did not fall under USCG jurisdiction.

As you can imagine, the Code of Federal Regulations book would need to be thrown away for the USCG to approve them in this case! And that ain't happening!!!!

cmdrost 07-21-2010 09:00 AM

Yeah you right Fin....it would have to be a manned pump. Police Jury has said so. Too much at risk in that little area.

Cal Point doesn't sell gas, alcohol, or tobacco.....Add those 3 business would pick up. Mrs. Elaine has told me the only thing that really keeps that store open is bait sales and ice......

Everyone short stops at Cormies and just gets everything there because they usually need fuel, so while they stop, they get their drinks, ice, etc....
