Ray 08-04-2010 06:46 PM

Yes. Croakers are clean white meat.
Not sure about one that big though.
I only eat small ones. Fillets look like
tater chips.

Montauk17 08-04-2010 06:58 PM

Croaker are very good to eat. Fry the small ones whole like a bream.

bull croaker

simplepeddler 08-04-2010 07:03 PM

Grand dad and his podnas used to catch them.....not quite like that, but big enough to fillet.
Good eating fish.
We have caught a few this summer big enough to keep at the mouth of Manchac pass and P-train......

That is a dang monster though.

Bluechip 08-04-2010 07:42 PM

I bet that fish was a fight....the little ones fight like hell, I can only imagine a big one.

Yep, when the trout aint bighting I go to the Hammock in VB and put on a tiny jig head and a small piece of dead shrimp and its usually all the croaker you feel like cleaning. Last year i got home and took a 20lb. ice back out the boat full of croaker to clean. The wife came over and took a look and said I thought you were going catch specks and reds not bream:redface:.

trophytroutman 08-06-2010 09:22 AM

that should be mounted.
