Duck season

From what I heard, duck season for the West zone opens up on NOV 13th. Also, I believe the limit on Pintails have been increased from 1 to 2. Can anyone confirm......... cannot wait...

Cool Raymond, I'm ready to help out with blind prep or whatever. Two Pins, that will be nice. I made a trip to the surf Wednesday with my neighbor - three reds and one trout - hardly worth reporting. It was so hot, I almost melted.

The refuges will be open. Should've gone to that meeting the other day in Lake Charles.

going to try and hit the Johnson Bayou lease 2 weekends from now, went to our vinton lease 2 weeks ago and saw some promising signs if the water will stay down and not come up 4 feet for youth weekend and stay there all season. Jumped around 200 birds including but not limited to mottled, woodies, a few teal and one big fat green head.

Gottogo49 08-09-2010 03:07 PM

I was planning to go to the meeting but my Daughter needed me for the grandbabies.
I had heard that they were considering not opening the refuges due to the oil spill.
I like that mid week hunt in Sabine. Any other Refuge Rats out there?
Sounds like Raymond might break me of my refuge rat ways.

I fished the burned out bridge area Thursday, saw a few ducks, is your Vinton lease anywhere near the Sabine?

Shawn Braquet 08-09-2010 03:33 PM

my lease is behind that gate on the left at the launch(burnout)

I used to hunt Quick Sand Gully down the same road that The Marsh Club uses. My Aunt still owns property in there but the hunting is poor.

You are Da Man, Lacassine is a tough hunt, more mallards than Sabine but a long boat ride. Canoe in the Pipeline canal?

the hunting has really fallen off around the burnout area due to the lack of rice farmers in vinton not farming anymore. We had a really good year after Rita, but high water last year kept all our vegetation covered so it was horrible. Hopefully we wont get the rain this year though and we will see some birds. An average year for us is a good first split then nothing in the second split, however we had a couple of decent dove shoots last year.

Shoot, lacassine is short compared to Sabine. I hunt the back of Sabine. No canoe and no pipeline canal. I do have a pirogue though!;)

I agree, back of Sabine is hard to get to. Black Bayou via Vinton drain ditch?
Front of Sabine is easy, short, crowded.
Lacassine via Gibstown or Bell City ditch is a pretty long boat ride then a long paddle in the pipline canal but the hunting is good, not too crowded.
