Live Bait Debate
Let me first start by saying I have absolutely no problem with people fishing with live bait, but here's the question:
Is catching a trophy trout with live bait equal to catching a trophy trout on an artificial lure?
Let the fun begin!

question is whether or not, say an 8lber caught on live bait is considered equal to an 8lber caught on a plastic.

IMO, it shouldn't qualify you as a "Trout Master".
Live bait should not be allowed in tournaments, IMO.

This horse has been beaten to death a million times here!
Live shrimp or plastic and an 8 lb result... It's as good as stuffed on my wall!

In my opinion fish with what you feel confidence in and legal.8lbs is 8lbs.I prefer artys myself and feel its more sporting catching them on artys than live bait.I like the challenge of working a bait and looking for the fish rather than soaking live bait and letting the fish find you.Not saying I wont fish with live bait. This is a very touchy subject.I agree live bait shouldnt be used in tournaments except if its for a charity. You will get more participants for a charity if you have live bait and that means more for the charity.Just my 2cents.

The same argument can be said for Deer hunting while sitting in front of a pile of corn.
Some do it.....some don't.

its not like everybody that fishes live bait catches big fish... so it still takes some skill to catch big fish either way.

Good point Meaux. And you still have to have some kind of idea where this 8lb. trout will be, fight the beast and put it in the boat (boga or whatever). I like fishing the fake stuff, but if I caught a hog on the live ones it would make no difference to me.
