Anybody use their personal vehicle for work?

Doesn anybody here use their personal vehicle for work on a daily basis? I'm not talking about using it to drive back and forth to work, I'm talking about have tools and equipment in their truck and have to go to different locations and actually work out of your personal vehicle.

No way I would be driving that much with out getting paid for mileage and gas

I use mine occasionally if I am gonna be in the field and go straight home.

We get $250/month vehicle allowance that is taxed at the end of the year and we get $.43 a mile when driving somewhere. We are arguing with "upper management" that it isn't nearly enough to compensate for the way we use our vehicles.

fun w son 08-25-2010 03:07 PM

our drivers average 180-200 miles a day on there trucks.

yak'em-n-stack'em 08-25-2010 03:09 PM

No that is not near enough for the wear and tear on your truck

RAGINJROB 08-25-2010 03:18 PM

I get $650 month and gas card if that helps

This is something we're shooting for. I would much rather have a flat rate of at least $500 a month plus a gas card to use only when on jobs. It sucks that I have to pay for everything out of pocket then wait on my company to reimburse me when I do my expenses.

I won't use mine much for work. I guess it depends on the job description.

I drive to any of the ports from Port of Isabel, TX to Mobile, AL once or twice a week, sometimes more. Take this month for example, these have been my jobs so far...

8/4 - Dulac & Morgan City
8/10 - Venice & Cameron
8/11 - Intracoastal City
8/13 - Leeville
8/18 - Larose, Leeville & Fourchon

Ok, I'm just jumping in here and sorry I'm going to give it to you straight. I am currently on a personal vehicle program where I am paid mileage. I have been in the past where my vehicle was a flat rate of $750/mo plus all fuel. Tires/oil changes/wipers and all the other upkeep came from the $750. At this point, both aspects suck!!!!!!!!!

The IRS has recently dropped the reimbursement schedule to $0.50/mile and our company pays us a rate of $0.75. Thus, I pay taxes on the extra quarter per mile! In the past, I made money on vehicles using them for work. Now, that is no longer the case. I will be going back to a company truck at the first available chance I get.

BTW- How can you be in Venice and Cameron on the same day? As a manager, that sticks out like a sore thumb!

MY GUYS PULL MY TRAILERS , DRIVE OTHER WORKERS AROUND WHO DONT HAVE CARS ECT.. I FILL THEM UP W/ GAS OR DESIEL EVERY WEEK OR WHEN EVER THEY ASK I KNOW ALL THE GAS I PAY FOR DOSNT GET USED FOR WORK BUT IT SURE BEATS ME HAVING TO GO OUT AND BUY 5 4X4 TRUCKS AND LET THEM DESTROY THEM PLUS THEY ARE 1099 SO THEY CAN WRITE ALL THOSE MILES OFF AT THE END OF THE YEAR . I TAKE CARE OF MY GUYS I WOULD HAVE NOTHING W/O THEM OR THEIR TRUCKS. WHAT KND OF WORK DO YOU DO? I WOULD NOT USE MY TRUCK UNLESS THEY WERE GIVING ME .55/MILE AND PAYING FOR OIL CHANGES ECT...
