24 foot Bay Stealth
My brother in law is about to purchase a 2004 24 foot Bay Stealth for $7500. I don't know if its the liner or rolled gunnel model. It will have a 225 2-stroke Yamaha on it. My question is... How good of a boat is this thing? The price seems good if everything checks out okay. Any Bay Stealth owners out there!

crazy
That is crazy cheap. I have the 2230, and it is a quality boat. Runs skinny and decent in a chop. Nice layout. The motor alone is probably worth that much. If he doesnt buy it let me know, and i will.

I had the 24' liner model, and it was an awesome boat. I've been looking for another one to buy (and the money to do it with :) ). It doesn't run as shallow as some (maybe 18" on plane), but it can still get pretty skinny in addition to holding up well in nearshore chop. Definitely a terrific boat, and that sounds like a good price.

Does this boat have any problems with cracking or rotting?

Rolled or liner. What is the difference besides weight?
My personal preference is the liner. It feels more solid and I have something to step on when getting in from a higher dock. |
Bay Stealth
I have a 1999 2108, rolled gunnel with a 200 Yamaha OX66.
Pros. 3-4 MPG @ 30-35 MPH. Very large casting decks, easy to fish 2 people off the front. 2 Live wells. Lots of storage area. Solid Hull. Runs pretty shallow. Cons. Kinda wet ride. Storage is defiantly not dry. The inside fiberglass finish is not very smooth. Cheap hatches, mine break easily. I've had the boat for almost 5 years and I have not had any hull issues. My boat has been through the ringer, I used to take it offshore alot. If anyone was going to crack a hull it would have been me. 7500 is a steal, just go run it and make sure the engine is fine. Good Luck, and have fun. |

Yo ducktrister did you ever buy the trim tabs for your vessel? One of my trolling motor batteries came loose offshore one day and fell upside down in the bilge area. I didnt notice until 1 day later. The battery acid was draining out the plug and onto the trailer; I had to re-galvonize that spot.

If it's a rolled gunnel...it should be splattered. Is that really supposed to be smooth? |
OK Salty
The inside fiberglass finish is extremly rough, I have seen other rolled gunnel boats that have a smoother finish.

Follow-up...
Went look at boat today. It is a 1998 Rolled gunnel 24 ft with '98 225 Yamaha saltwater series. The trailer looked good, transom solid, no cracks in floor but, seats dry rotted, only 24volt 70lbs thrust minn kota. He also dropped the price to $6500. I told my brother in law to buy it!
