Suggestions on where to get a deer mounted....
 

I just shot my first deer last week while hunting at a freinds camp in north LA. I got lucky and it was an 8 pt. Definitely not a record deer but since it is my first I want to get it mounted. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I can get a decent mount at a reasonable price? I live near Lafayette, but am willing to drive a little if it means getting a better mount.

Fins to Feather Taxidermy in St. Amant does great work! Thad Bellow owns it and is a one man show and, his quality is second to none! He takes a little longer than some and I'm not sure what his prices are like compared to others but his work is incredible.

He lives right by Fresh Pickins off Kaliste Saloom. He has done 4 ducks, 1 turkey, and 1 12 point for me. He does very good work, very fast. I think a whitetail is about $525.

I'll give another shout out for Steve German, that guy is top notch...

Have you tried Ben Mitchell in Crowley, La. He owns and runs Bayou Woods and Waters, the mount are spectacular. I wouldn't go any where else, mounts anything you want.

Ken Dugas Taxidermy in Loreauville. One person in our office had an axxis done by him and then everyone followed suit with their deer. His Number is 337-229-8103. And I know he is cheaper than the guy in Lafayette and his mounts look more life like.

All my mounts look plenty "life-like" or I wouldn't use him. And I can promise you no one around is as fast as Henry Barker. He has mounted ducks for me in less than 2 months before. And he still does quality work. My 12 point took him right around 5 months. I have had mounts with other people take 1 1/2-2 years. He has also done a few reds for some buddies and came out real nice. When I picked up my 12 point, he also had some trout he was finishing up. They looked very real. I hate a fish mount that looks fake. He will do my next trout.

I have never tried Steve German cause Im not riding all the way to Lake Charles, but heard he does very good work.
