For those of you in the Petrochem field...

Is there like some kind of a hiring hold...i just completed school and now cant pay somebody to hire me...it seems like the whole field is like this and is very frustrating....:pissed:

eman 01-05-2011 02:05 PM

It's not just the petro / chem field. construction sucks right now too

Hopedale Hustler 01-05-2011 02:14 PM

Ya I shoulda put petro chem and construction man it's horrible I hope it picks up soon like some time in 2011 atleast

southern151 01-05-2011 02:17 PM

Give it about another 3 weeks or so and the turnarounds will start to kick off. Traditionally, Dec and Jan are very slow times in industrial construction.

specktator 01-05-2011 02:42 PM

Everything oilfield related is extremely slow. Oil prices are very high. Hopefully they start to recede very soon and it should pick back up.

duckman444 01-05-2011 02:44 PM

Not that good. I work for turner and it is SLOW. We got conoco in belle chasse kicking off in about a week or so. Then nothing till march. Huntsman in port arther has a two week squat. Then who knows. It is bad. Shell Norco ain't got nothing no time soon and Motiva convents turn around they just had was a joke. It's gotta get better. I am happy I am full time. If u get or got a job right now hold on to it and thank god.

i Work for Citgo and the best info i can give you is try to get as much experience as you can. We are starting up alot of turnarounds starting this week actually. As for getting hired for the company you'll just have to hang in there. From now to the next five years or so the baby boomers will start to retire and as long as the stock market holds out. Keep looking in the paper and on companys web sites.

I work for Total Petrochemicals in Carville. We have a turnaround scheduled for October this year. 55 day mechanical. its gonna be a big one. Turner provides the manpower.

outcast 01-05-2011 02:59 PM

also we are starting to hire again for the company. Lot of people are starting to retire. go to the LA Works website. alot of the plants go through there to do their hiring

HH do you know how to weld or install trays and packing in distillation towers.......I work for Sulzer Chemtech. However, I work on the process sales side. But I do get involved in field work when a turn-key job is involved. Fell free to send me a PM if you have more questions or if you need some info on our tower installation group since I know a lot of these guys.

I've been down there since mid-October working for RSC. I'll probably be down there through this turn around as well.
