removing seat
 

I am trying to take off my main seat to get it recovered and I cannot get the screws to move. They are not rusted, there is two screws holding each hinge. Is there a trick to it, are you just have to really put out on it and take a chance of stripping them?:help:

Here are a couple of things to try.

First.......put a screwdriver in the screw and then use a hammer and hit on the screwdriver. A couple of good licks may loosen [break it free] the screw enough so you can get it out. If the screw does turn, say 1/2 a turn......screw it back [clockwise] in a little bit. This will help clean the threads. Now loosen the a little more and then screw it back in a little. Doing this may keep the screw from breaking.

Another method........is to hold the screwdriver in one hand, press down and start trying to take the screw out........while doing this, tap very fast with a hammer on the end of the screwdriver. Sometimes the combination of the "vibration" and turning pressure will cause the screw to break free and start coming out. Don't forget to screw it back in some to help clean the threads as you work the screw out.

Or.....get some "liquid wrench" from an Auto parts store to put on it and let it soak all day. Also use the hammer like above a couple of times. This may help get the liquid to soak down the screw threads to help loosen up the screw.

Another option.......and you may not be able to do this......is to heat the metal that is holding the screw. You want to heat the metal and not the screw. If this is aluminum, heat it very very slowly. When it gets hot [red hot....if it were carbon steel] take the screw out while it is hot. Don't let it cool......that is important.

Lastly.......be prepared for the screw to just break off.

Can't u just grind the head off and make the job easier

Impact driver is about 15 bucks and will save you time and headache.......just don't hit it so hard you break your seat

If you got a small torch, you might be able to put some heat on it to loosen it
