Marsh runner boats

What do yall think of those marsh runner boats. Are they real heavy, durable.......run good? And are they pretty expensive?

LaAngler 02-03-2011 12:06 PM

I heard Clays son started building them again. The 1550 is a good boat, my uncle still has one with a mega 25 (40 mph top speed). They had problems with floors getting soft, but i've been told the issue was fixed. My dad had a 17x42 for years, he cut the floor after it got soft, dug the foam out, then glassed a cable tray in as a make shift stringer system.

They ride a little softer and quieter, fish a lot quieter than aluminum. If you have to buy a new engine, choices are pretty much a 50 TLDI and that's the only short shaft tiller left.

I'm wondering if it was the same crew making those exploiter boats about 10 years ago?

the ones i've ran weren't really that heavy, i don't see why the new ones would be much different.

I have a friend who had the older one. It got water under the decks and cost a bundle to fix, so he sold it as is and bought an aluminum boat.
He fishes Rockefeller Refuge mostly.

the reason i was asking is that im looking to buy a used boat. I sold my xpress and im looking to get a 16 ft. flat with 40 merc. I've seen a couple of marsh runners with a 40 on them. How much should a rigged out boat motor and trailer cost (marsh runner with a 2 stroke 40 merc)??

New Marshrunner Boats!

Great to see the interest in the Marshrunners!

This is Paul Pettefer. My brother and I built these with our dad in the 80's and 90's, and we're building them again.

The boat runs great and it well built. Check them out: www.marshrunnerboats.blogspot.com/. New pictures and video of the 16 x 44 Marshrunner 2.

I saw your questions, so I'll take a shot at some responses. Some of the lighter boats we built 10 years ago had trouble if you pounded them hard in Big Lake. Some of the boats were built with a foam that degraded when gasoline got on it and would hold some water (as memory serves, I'll need to ask Bill to confirm). The foam we use now is closed-cell and Coast Guard approved, so it doesn't hold water.

If you are interested, please call Bill at 377-7440 or email us at bill@marshrunnerboats.com.

See you on the water!
paul

That's a nice looking boat.

I've got some pics of a friends Marshrunner we used in Lacassine. I will never forget that boat, or those trips where we hammered the fish! I remember like yesterday how stable it was to fish two men in such a small boat and commented on how nice it was compared to the Alweld boats for fishing comfort. I'll see if I can dig them up, cause that was a nice boat!!

Paul,

how fast does the 2nd generation 16 foot run with a 50 2 stroke?

does the hull have any type of stringer system?

SULPHITE 03-23-2011 01:29 PM

Man those look pretty sweet...

That's the important question: How fast are they? If it's a slug I wouldn't be interested.

i went about 2 weeks ago and looked at a 16.5x44 that he had just finished and it was realy nice, the inside is wide open and the finnish would be easy to clean like a bay boat. if i were gona buy a boat right now i have no dout it would be one of them and i have looked at alot here latly and he has theem priced very well, well worth a look if you gettin a new rig

last one I seen was about as heavy as ever...2 years ago at the boat show.

fit and finish?

has anyone taken a close look at them? i'm a little OCD about details and i saw one at lake area marine...i have no doubt that they are solid boats but attention to detail is what will sell me.

i'm wondering what you all thought about the fit and finish and the attention to the little things....

i went and took alook a few months ago and they are real nice. if you call you can go to where he builds them and see the mold he uses but i will say that the outer hull was slick and shiny and the inside was very well finnished and looked like the inside of the bay boats i have looked at. if you are lookin for a boat i would make the trip to look at one before i spent money on anything else in the size range he build and from the prices i saw at the boat show on alluminum jons the marshrunner is better priced
