I use 20 lb green suffix braid with a 15-20 lb fluorocarbon leader attached using a uni to uni knot

i tie directly with a knot i was shown how to use a while back. Dont know the name. I'll explain as best as i can. Double the PP (power pro) towards the end (about 18" or so). Bring the doubled PP through the hook eye and tie a regular overhand knot. DO NOT TIGHTEN, instead, open the doubled end and bring the bait through and then tighten.....

So why don't you enlighten us as to why a leader isn't necessary...

I use 30 lb PP and a 20 lb floro leader in clear water.
Use same PP direct tied w/ a pooky knot in off colored water.

look up "knot wars" its very informative,i myself dont use a leader with braid i use 20lb power pro braid on a #2 spinning reel and i have 20lb on a baitcast for all other situations

This is getting way too complicated for my brain cell.

OK ...gues Im on my own on this one. I tie 20lb power pro to a small barrell swivel (forgot what #) then to 14 lb cajun red. Now only reason I do this is due to line memory when using my popping cork this eliminates memory and at the same time the mono is there for stretch on the specs which I find u need instead of straight braid. Like they say to each his own and use what works best. This by far works best for me especially fishing with wife and kids. Every line is rigged that way except bottom line which is straight 20lb power pro due to oysters ect. ( had to edit) I use this setup using braid or mono...works either way.

Keywest18 03-26-2011 07:48 PM

just out of curiosity i kno braid does not stretch and mono does but if you only have say a 4ft leader of mono is that 4ft really gonna stretch enough to make a "REAL" difference i kno the longer the line the more the stretch so just curious if anybody would have knowledge on this?i thought the leader was just so the fish didnt see the line

Dink 03-26-2011 07:51 PM

4ft wont stretch enough to worry about.......a GREAT man once told me.."don't set the hook, reel till you feel"

No more lip rippin

Keywest18 03-26-2011 08:15 PM

yea i have a bunch of bill dance dvr'd and he said put tension on the line till you feel him pull then set the hook,he said the tension would make it feel like the bait was tryin to escape and it would "feel natural" to the fish
